Epilogue to Looking Glass

now, normally i don't like poetry, but this just really appeals to me. ...trust me to like the stuff written by a 19th century guy with a fascination of drugs.

Epilogue to Looking-Glass

A BOAT beneath the sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July --

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear
Pleased a simple tale to hear --

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die:
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise
Alice moviing under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream --
Lingering in the golden gleam --
Life what is it but a dream?

from the desk of a poor college student

yep, i got the envelopes and payment slips for my car in the mail the other day. and DiscountAnimeDVD.com is having all these awesome sales. damn them!!! i want to spend money, but i know i shouldn't. the stuff from the courthouse came in the mail a while ago too. now i have to go down there sometime and register my car and pay for its taxes. indeed, i have become a poor college student. between food and car payments and anime, i have limited currency. oh well, it isn't that bad. it helps that i will actually make money when selling my books back this semester. (i bought them on Amazon.com for less than half thier original value, and the bookstore will buy them back for half their original value. yay cheating the system!)

my posters came in the mail friday. now my wall isn't so.... white:

in other news, aliens have invaded my brain and are telling me to destroy all humans. they're rather interesting fellows, i must admit, and are promising that they'll make all my wildest dreams come true if i comply with their demands, er, requests. unfortunately, they will only accept slaughters, and they have to be done with alkaline battery-powered softnose lasers, which i just can't seem to find anywhere.

i'm doing my last big speech on gender stereotyping, and i had to make an audience analysis survey for this one. the results were mildly interesting. the last question on the survey was "do you believe that all girls should act feminine and all boys should act masculine?" most people answered things along the lines of "no, be yourself" or "no, it'd be boring that way", but there were a few with solid "yes, that's the way it should be" replies. those are probably the kind of people who are like rob (reiter) when he said to me, rather randomly, "anne, you're such a tomboy." my reply was "yea, so?" (or maybe it was "i know, so what?"). people like that need to have more of an open mind about these things. there was another question where i asked my classmates if they considered themselves girly-girls/manly-men, average/androgenous, or girly-men/manly-girls. most people put the middle option, and a few selected the first, but i thought it was kinda funny how one (and only one) person selected the last one. there's nothing wrong with that, props to them, but i just thought it was humorous that only one person selected that answer. it was an anonymous survey, so it's not like people needed to be worried about being embarressed.

oh yea, did i mention that souha left? it was a happy, happy day when i got a text message from hanna (it was back when jessie and i were in minneapolis) stating "ding dong, the witch is gone!" rude, probably. funny, of course!

HOLY SHIT!

freaking EVERYBODY is on myspace! i DON'T BELIEVE IT! a couple weeks ago, matt showed me his myspace profile, which wasn't a surprise i must say. he's a social guy. anywho, i was reading eric's blog just now, and noticed all the links on the side to his various profiles. so i clicked on myspace. i scroll down and look at all his comments and i see someone who looks suspiciously like jessie's sister kristy. sure enough, it is kristy. this is also unsurprising as she, too, is a rather soical being. then i scroll down on her page and see a link to "my little sister". sure enough, it's jessie's (and kristy's) youngest sister lynsey. lynsey's still in grade school for christ's sake! this knowledge that such young kiddies were on this wacked-out craze of a website set off some sort of miniature explosion in my head. i mean, HOLY SHIT! my eyes widened slightly and everything. maybe they bugged out, but i dunno, my eyes aren't that wide to begin with. to tell you the truth, after matt showed me his profile i was tempted to sign up, just so i could make fun of his self-proclaimed atheism in his comment section thing, but with this new knowledge of freaking EVERYBODY AND THEIR KID SISTER (OR BROTHER) being on it is rather deterring. it's not like i need another profile somewhere, damn. oh, and one more thing that was surprising. kristy's profile said she was 17. eh-hem, i don't think so. she's three days younger than my brother, who just celebrated his 16th birthday two weeks ago today. i dunno about you, but people generally can't age an entire year in less than two weeks. hmm.....

in other news, i got my hair cut. it was getting pretty long (by the standard of what my hair has been in the last year and a half); now it's very short.

but yea.... it's like what my roommate hanna said: those things (myspace, facebook, etc.) are just popularity contests for most people. i mean, why else would jill, (yep, that's right, the ever-despised jill) add me as a friend?
