a firm believer

i got the idea to write a post like this when a kid sitting behind me in my philosophy class stated "i'm a firm believer in 'money can buy you anything'". and it got me thinking. am i a firm believer in anything? before i delve more into that topic i'd like to address the kid's statement. sure, you can buy anything with money. no, i'm not kidding, ANYTHING. but, yes, there is a but, you can't buy the best of anything. sure, money can buy you the best car and the best house and so on and so forth, but money cannot buy you the best form of feelings. it can buy you happiness, but only superficial happiness, and anyone who says that's good enough for them will one day realize what a sad and lonely life they've led. they'll probably realize this on their death bed.

now on to what i'm a firm believer in. i thought long and hard about it, and came to the conclusion that i'm a firm believer in there being an exception to every rule. i know it seems odd, but hear me out. there really is an exception to every rule, nothing is absolute. there is an exception to every rule including the rule "there is an exception to every rule". for example: murder is wrong. but murder isn't wrong when it's done in an act of self defense. there is an exception to every rule. but some things, like killing someone for the pure and simple pleasure of seeing someone die is wrong. you get my meaning? so that's what i have concluded; this is one thing i cannot refute: an infinite loophole. this is my "cogito ergo sum."

and that rule would be an exception to the "there is an exception to every rule" rule. :P
